Hand washing is one of the single most important ways to protect yourself and others from getting sick. However, during the COVID-19 Pandemic running your hands under some water after using the restroom is simply not enough. Below you will find information from the CDC regarding when you should wash your hands and more importantly how to wash them.

When You Should Wash Your Hands During Covid 19

-Anytime after being in a public place

-After touching a frequently touched surface or item

-Before and after entering a grocery store

-After pumping gas or using a credit card terminal

-Before touching your eyes, nose or mouth

The Five Steps To Wash Your Hands The Right Way Outlined by the CDC:

1. Wet your hands with clean running water, turn off the tap and apply soap

2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with soap, lather the back of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails

3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds

4. Rinse your hands under clean, running water

5. Dry your hands with a clean towel or air dry them

Use Hand Sanitizer When Soap & Water is Unavailable:

Washing your hands is always the best option to get rid of germs on your hands. If soap and water is not available using an alcohol-based sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol to clean your hands is recommended. If you’re out and about, carrying hand sanitizer in your bag or car is a great option! Always remember to read the label on the bottle to make sure you apply the correct amount of sanitizer!

Much like wearing a mask or face covering in public it’s your responsibility to keep your hands clean. By following these hand washing tips and making sure to continue following all social distancing guidelines we can flatten the curve, and get back to normal!
