Now that certain states are beginning to open back up around the U.S should you start traveling again? In short, that answer is completely up to you. However, to help you make an informed decision about traveling, we have summarized some of the most important rules and guidelines you should follow according to the CDC.

At this time The CDC has found that travel does increase your chances of contracting or spreading Covid-19. The CDC explains that the primary issue with traveling by plane, bus or train, is that it’s very hard to social distance (keep 6 feet apart from others).

If you do decide to travel keep these guidelines in mind:

Consider The Risks When Deciding How To Travel

Traveling by Air: When traveling by air you will spend a lot of time in close contact with other passengers and airport personnel. You also need to be aware of frequently touched surfaces inside the plane or within the terminal. It’s also good to know that contrary to popular belief most viruses and aerosol germs do not spread easily on flights because of how air is filtered within the plane.

Traveling By Bus or Train:  Much like traveling by air you will spend a majority of your time very close to other other passengers. On busy busses or trains you may even have to sit directly next to other passengers.

Traveling In Your Car or RV: Making stops along the way for gas, food or bathroom breaks can put you at an increased risk to contract or spread Covid-19.

Anticipating Your Travel Needs

Pack more than enough hand sanitizer for your entire trip. It’s almost impossible to get through your entire trip without touching dozens of possibly contaminated surfaces. You should keep hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol in reach at all times. It’s very important to thoroughly apply sanitizer after touching any contaminated surfaces or before touching your face or mask.

Wear a mask or face covering when in public. It’s of the utmost importance to wear a face covering or mask in public at all times! The CDC has identified that Covid-19 can spread easily throughout the air and by covering your face you can reduce the risk of contracting or spreading the virus.

If you plan on staying in any form of travel lodging you should bring a CDC approved disinfectant. Be sure to thoroughly clean all surfaces at your accommodation before bringing in any clothing or personal objects into the room.
