As we begin to transition into the summer months, parks and recreational facilities are beginning to open back up. These are great areas that you and your family can safely visit during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, it’s important to understand the precautions that need to be taken when visiting.

According to the CDC you need to “know before you go” this means before traveling to any park or recreational facility you should adhere to these guidelines:

Don’t

Visit a park if you are sick or were recently exposed to Covid-19: If you are sick with Covid-19, or recently exposed (within 14 days) to someone with Covid-19 stay home!

Visit Crowded Parks: If you cannot enjoy the park or recreational area without adhering to the 6 foot social distancing guidelines don’t go.

Use Playgrounds: This includes water playgrounds, swing sets, or other climbing areas. These areas are typically too crowded to follow proper social distancing guidelines and are not being disinfected by state/local workers.

Participate in organized activities or sports: Most organized activities including basketball, baseball, soccer and football are not recommended. These activities typically require athletes not from the same household to be in close proximity

Do

Visit parks that are close to your home: Traveling long distances to a park may contribute to the spread of Covid-19. By visiting parks close to your home you reduce the risk of having to make stops throughout the trip and touch potentially contaminated surfaces.

Prepare before you visit: State and local authorities make the final decision on when parks and other facilities will open. Check with your park in advance to be sure you know which areas of service are open, such as bathrooms and concessions.

Stay 6 Feet away from others: If a park, beach or recreational area is open to the public visiting is okay. However, you should still follow all of the social distancing guidelines outlined by the CDC and avoid gathering with others outside of your household.

Getting outside and saying physically active is one of the best ways to keep your mind and body healthy! However, it’s our responsibility to take the proper precautions when traveling to a public area. Click here to read the complete article from the CDC on visiting parks and recreational facilities.
