Simulation training is a learner-centered approach that provides an engaging alternative to the traditional classroom model. However, integrating simulation into an existing healthcare training can be a daunting task for even the most seasoned educators. DiaMedical USA has partnered with Hudson Simulation to help improve the quality of healthcare by providing innovative tools like the SimVS Virtual Diagnostic Platform to educate the next generation of medical professionals. In addition, the SimVS Virtual Diagnostic Platform allows all types of healthcare training programs to increase their simulation capacity without breaking their budgets. Continue reading to learn more about the SimVS system and why instructors love using it with their students.

What is SimVS?

SimVS Hospital Virtual Diagnostic Platform is a tablet-based system that enables instructors to transform any manikin into a high-fidelity simulator by manipulating monitor results to influence patient care decisions. This platform allows instructors to incorporate realistic patient monitor, defibrillator, ventilator and fetal monitor interfaces into their simulations which encourages students to develop critical thinking skills in an ultra realistic simulation setting. SimVS can be used across multiple healthcare settings with simulation scenarios specifically catered to a variety of nursing, respiratory and OB procedures.

NEW Ultrarealistic Monitor Interfaces

As a continuation of our promise to you, we have partnered with SimVS to provide a new level of realism and precision to the EMS and Hospital Virtual Diagnostic Platforms. The new simulated GE Patient Monitor interface displays the patient’s temperature along with continuous ECG, SpO2, ABP and EtCO2 waveforms. Students can now select which cardiac lead to display and pause rhythms as needed to more closely analyze the waveform. The new simulated Zoll X-Series Defibrillator interface displays cardiac waveforms from the pads or individual EKG leads or even all 12 leads at once. Students can now select the specific energy dosage to be delivered for defibrillation and cardioversion.

Pre-licensure training

SimVS Diagnostic Essentials can transform skills demonstrations into engaging learning opportunities as students observe the effects of interventions on patient physiology. For instance, students will forget to suction for less than 10 seconds after seeing the patient’s pulse oximetry drop precipitously. Skills validations can also be enhanced with SimVS as students can be required to make clinical decisions for the patient during the procedure. Furthermore, the observer effect is minimized as the instructor remains out of sight while changing the patient’s vital signs on the SimVS tablet. This allows students to function independently so their decision-making skills can be accurately evaluated by the instructor.

Professional certification

Mega code scenarios are an integral part of advanced resuscitation training programs for patients of all ages. SimVS Hospital and EMS Diagnostic Platforms allows educators to transform these skills validations from tabletop conversations to engaging, interactive, hands-on simulations for the following certifications:

  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation Program
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support
  • PHTLS - Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support

For realism, the new SimVS defibrillator interface accurately replicates the Zoll X-series display with absolutely no risk of shock to instructors or participants. Unlike the Zoll defibrillator, however, the SimVS system includes 200 cardiac and respiratory waveforms and poses no risk of electrical shock. Additionally, instructors can upload media such as x-ray films, 12-lead EKGs and ABG results to be displayed at specific times during the scenario in order to further challenge the participants’ decision-making skills.

Simulation Management

The SimVS Nurse Call System allows instructors to consolidate multiple point-of-care devices so that students are required to prioritize care for up to 20 patients. It enables the instructor tablet to send sounds into specified patient rooms for infusion pump alarms, fall alerts and nurse call requests. Students are challenged to develop leadership, communication, and delegation skills as they respond to the various calls for assistance. Critical care courses can take this experience a step further with the SimVS Telemetry App that displays ECG rhythms and vital signs for up to four patients on a central monitor. It provides opportunities for students to identify arrhythmias and vital signs changes before the patient progresses to respiratory or cardiac arrest.

Final thoughts

The SimVS system allows all types of healthcare training programs to create engaging, interactive simulation experiences at an affordable price point. The DiaMedical USA team is ready to help schools balance cost and functionality in order to find the best SimVS option to meet the learning needs of their students.
