CAE LUNA INFANT SIMULATOR

The CAE Luna Infant Simulator is ideally designed for neonatal assessment and resuscitation.  Luna is the first tetherless and completely wireless infant simulator for realistic training at any location. Learners can immerse themselves in the simulation without being distracted by cords or tethers.
 

Luna enables learners to practice and gain proficiency in newborn assessment, neonatal resuscitation, advanced life support and more. An infant from the birth to 28 days after delivery is realistically represented with a target weight of 8 lbs.

 

CAE LUNA IS YOUR COMPLETE SOLUTION FOR NEONATAL RESUSCITATION TRAINING!

Luna meets the objectives and compliance requirements for Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training.  Optional defibrillation, cardioversion and pacing capabilities using live equipment are available.
 

Luna’s anatomically correct airway allows insertion of oral and nasal airways.  Oral and nasopharyngeal suctioning may be practiced and chest rise is seen with correct Bag-Valve-Mask ventilations. Pneumothorax decompression can be performed with chest tube insertion when asymmetrical chest expansion occurs. Simulated pulse oximetry is fully supported.
 

Oral and nasal endotracheal intubation procedures can be performed along with LMA insertion.  Lung sounds can be used to confirm correct placement of the ET tube as right mainstem intubation is possible.  The abdomen becomes distended if the esophagus is intubated.  A pre-made opening allows insertion of tracheostomy tubes.

 

COMPREHENSIVE NEONATAL SKILLS TRAINING

Luna’s StethoSym technology allows learners to hear clear, realistic heart, lung and bowel sounds.   Bilateral brachial pulses can be weak, normal or bounding. A variety of vocal sounds are available including stridor, wheezing, cooing, weak cry, and hiccups.
 

Luna’s eyes can be rotated to represent normal, blown, pinpoint or unequal pupils.  Skin tone patches can be placed over the pupils to simulate closed eyes. A palpable anterior fontanel displays bulging, neutral and sunken conditions upon manual filling. All joints are fully articulated to assess range of motion.
 

Luna features multiple options for learners to practice insertion of IV, IO and arterial lines:

• Peripheral IV access: Cephalic, lateral marginal, temporal and antecubital
• Arterial catheter access: Umbilicus and right radial
• Central venous access: Subclavian and umbilical
• IO access: Right tibia
• IM and subQ injections: Lateral thighs

Interchangeable male and female genitalia are included for urinary catheterization.  Fluid may be placed in the bladder to simulate urine if desired.

 

USER-FRIENDLY MAESTRO SOFTWARE

Educators can use the CAE Maestro software for pre-programmed Simulated Clinical Experiences (SCEs) or on-the-fly operation.  Maestro also allows educators to easily create patient simulation scenarios for standardized training and skills assessment.
 

Five newborn care scenarios are pre-programmed into the Maestro software that correlate to newborn assessment and resuscitation standards:

• Infant cardiopulmonary failure
• Neonatal abstinence syndrome
• Neonatal resuscitation
• Pneumothorax
• Poor perfusion

Maestro is tablet-based so that educators can easily adjust the patient’s vital signs and condition out of the view of participants. The tablet display includes CPR performance metrics so that educators can readily evaluate learner performance.  Educators are notified of right mainstem or esophageal intubation.

 

ADDITIONAL FEATURES OF THE ADVANCED LUNA SIMULATOR

Advanced Luna breathes spontaneously with a self-regulated rate and tidal volume.  Educators can program circumoral cyanosis, variable respiratory rates and breathing patterns with substernal retractions.  Vocal cords can be manually closed to simulate laryngospasm and make intubation more difficult.   Pneumothorax decompression and ventilated air are automatically detected.
 

Advanced Luna can support basic mechanical ventilation with one level of lung compliance and resistance. The respiratory response to administered medications is automatic and dose dependent with Maestro Modeled physiology. Physiological mathematical models continuously calculate the patient’s arterial and venous blood gases and pH for display on the instructor tablet.
