These pads are important to replace every 2 years. The gel adhesive in the the pads will dry out and shrink overtime and will not be able to deliver the appropriate shock to a victim of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). You can find the expiration date for these pads under the picture of the person. In YYYY/MM format.

Adult Smart Pads are for use on patients weighing 55 pounds (25 kg) or more. 

Why should I purchase a spare set of pads?

After successfully responding to a Sudden Cardiac Arrest, the pads that were used are now discarded. Therefore, your AED is not ready for the next emergency! During the downtime after the initial emergency, another event could happen. Always have a spare set on hand to avoid lapse in AED coverage!

Why do I need to replace my Pads?

Even if your pads have never been used, they will still expire. This is because of the gel adhesive that attaches the pads to the patient’s chest will dry out overtime. This affects the shock that the AED gives. Every manufacturer will have different expiration dates. Furthermore, look for the expiration date on your pads. Often times there is a small hourglass symbol to indicate which is the expiration date.

If the foil seal is broken or removed, the Pads are no longer usable.
